Summer holidays just got more exciting: Selfridges Birmingham has teamed up with Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery to host a variety of complimentary fun kids activities in store during the six-week break.

Every Thursday between July 25 and August 29, Museum staff will take up residence in the children’s department on Level 1 of the premium Bullring & Grand Central department store to lead a series of themed activities.

Youngsters will have the opportunity to unleash their creative know-how, complete fun science challenges and even enjoy historic artefacts close up. They will be able to complete a series of Duplo and LEGO challenges at LEGO Lab, while budding scientists will have the opportunity to take part in experiments and activities.

Artistic children can immerse themselves in a scrap-booking and card-making workshop and those who love to combine arts and tech can create wobble bots and draw bots. Museum staff will also be whetting the appetites of mini-historians with family challenges based on its 3000 years of Egyptian artefacts and a session when participants can get their hands on 10 specially selected objects from its collections.

Sam Watts, General Manager of Selfridges Birmingham, said: “We know it can be difficult to entertain children for the whole of the six-week holiday, so we’re excited to collaborate once again with Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery, which has selected some fantastic activities that will allow youngsters to be creative and use their imaginations to the max. We’re looking forward to welcoming both Museum staff and families here for these Thursday events.”

Alex Nicholson-Evans, Commercial Director at Birmingham Museums Trust, said: “We are thrilled to be partnering with Selfridges to bring our free, fun museum activities out to families visiting the store this summer. Our friendly learning team will be bringing science, art, and history to life, and showing a glimpse of what we have on offer across our sites during the six-week holiday.”
