As part of the city's celebrations, Bullring & Grand Central hosted its own Chinese New Year event on Saturday 6th February.
Chinese community artists brought the centre to life with an exciting display of colour and theatre, starting with a parade of traditional lion and dragon dancers from the Bull, through the centre and finishing up with a dance performance near Debenhams.
The day continued with a showcase of traditional and contemporary dances, including Red Ink, a hip-hop piece by local choreographer Si Rawlinson. Shoppers also enjoyed acrobatics and martial arts from Shaolin Warriors and traditional fan and face changing dancing from Dans Dance Chinese Dance & Performing Arts (recently featured on BBC One’s The Greatest Dancer).
At lunchtime, the Lion dancers paraded around Grand Central, catching the attention of shoppers and diners alike, many of whom joined the procession.
The event created a wave of excitement across the centre as shoppers were delighted by the various displays throughout the day with many staying throughout the day to watch the range of performances.
