Birmingham’s biggest attraction that’s bursting with brilliance
Smack dab in the centre of Brum, Bullring is packed with over 800 years of history that firmly establishes it as Birmingham’s biggest attraction.
With its roots as a medieval market to its iconic status today it’s a one-of-a-kind destination that attracts over 40 million people every single year.
Bullring first emerged in 1166, when Peter de Bermingham was given the go-ahead to set up a market.
It was named after the 16th-century spectacle of bull-baiting, a lively (and slightly bonkers) tradition that kept the market square full of energy. Thankfully, times have changed, but the buzz of the Bullring remains.
Fast forward to 2003, and after a £500 million transformation, Bullring reopened its doors in style, with the late Majesty herself cutting the ribbon. Today, we’re still at the centre of it all – mixing history, culture, and a whole lot of Brummie spirit.
From Selfridge’s eye-popping aluminium disc design inspired by a Paco Rabanne sequined dress, to our six-tonne bronze Bull that’s one of the most photographed pieces of art in the world.
We love Birmingham. It’s why Bullring celebrates the best of our city every single day.
A true cultural melting pot, Birmingham is alive with diversity. Home to over 187 nationalities, the energy of countless cultures is relentless. It’s the birthplace of heavy metal, home to music legends like Black Sabbath and UB40, and boasts more canals than Venice (yes, really). It’s also one of the youngest cities in Europe, with 40% of its population under the age of 25.
At Bullring, we bring all of this brilliance together – a place where you can shop ‘til you drop, eat ‘til you pop, and play non-stop. Whether it’s world-class eats, cracking events, or just a mooch with mates it’s your go-to destination for fun, food, and fab finds.
At Bullring, we like to think Brummies have a special kind of warmth – a friendliness and charm that make everyone feel right at home. It’s this Brummie spirit we want everyone to embrace when they visit. Whether you’re here for a mooch, a meal, or a day of shopping, we’re all about creating a space that’s welcoming, inclusive, and brimming with good vibes.
That’s why we ask everyone to show respect and kindness to our team and each other, so Bullring stays a safe and enjoyable spot for all. While we understand that frustrations can happen, certain behaviours simply aren’t on, and we won’t tolerate:
We’re committed to making Bullring a place where everyone feels safe and welcome. Let’s work together to keep it that way and continue to celebrate the Brummie warmth that makes this city so special.
